We are disappointed in the Governor’s amendatory veto of SB444 because it does not put kids first. This AV only prolongs school funding inequity for our public schools. SB444 was introduced by the Illinois State Board of Education in order to clarify technical language in SB1947, specifically addressing the new funding formula. The Governor’s AV did not change any of the technical language in SB444. Instead, he tacked on additional issues related to private school tax credits. In doing so, his actions further delay the long-awaited implementation of the Evidence Based Model and more equitable funding for all K-12 public schools in Illinois.

Illinois fixed the formula last August, but students have yet to see any new funding. We must end the games so that kids can begin to benefit from the new, equitable formula.
