The Fix the Formula campaign and Funding Illinois’ Future coalition, comprised of hundreds of superintendents, civil rights organizations, teachers, parents and student advocates from across the state, stand firm in support of SB1. All kids win in SB1.
We urge Governor Rauner to sign SB1, an evidence-based model for school funding. SB1 treats all school districts across the state fairly—and drives resources to those serving the neediest kids and with the lowest property values. Under SB1 no school district loses money, period. The bill invests more in every school.
The Governor supports a plan that cuts funding from Chicago Public Schools—which serves a student population that’s 84% low-income. The bill moves CPS further from adequate funding, which is inequitable and wrong.
We urge the Governor to consider the needs of all students across Illinois and sign SB1 when the bill reaches his desk. This is no time for an amendatory veto that plays politics with schools opening and pits students against each other.
