While we were optimistic about the Illinois School Funding Reform Commission’s final report, the Governor’s proposed education budget falls short. The Governor should provide leadership towards a more equitable and adequate system. This proposal puts money in the same broken funding system, will not reduce inequity and makes little dent in the $3.5 billion adequacy gap that the Governor’s Commission acknowledged. We will continue to push for the Governor and General Assembly to implement the Commission’s recommendations and fix Illinois’ broken funding system.
